PowerCase Wins Ontario Award

PowerCase Solution Helps Win Ministry Diamond Award

Ontario, Canada — On September 11th 2002, the Ontario Major Case Management System, which was implemented by the Campbell Implementation Project, was awarded the Diamond Award of Excellence for “Serving Ontario’s Citizens Better.”

In February 2002, Xanalys successfully completed the implementation stage of the largest case management system implementation in the world to date, as part of the Campbell Implementation Project. The Campbell Implementation Project is a collaboration between the Police Services of Ontario and the Government of Ontario Ministry of Public Safety and Security. Xanalys’ PowerCase case management software will be rolled out to 65 services, covering an area of over 1 million square kilometres.

PowerCase enables all Ontario law enforcement agencies investigating major and predator crime to access and search every available database for relevant information and to share this information simultaneously across the entire province and across several concurrent cases. Even during the piloting phase, the use of PowerCase was credited with the successful outcome of a number of criminal cases in the Toronto region – notably the Bedroom Rapist case.

The annual Showcase Ontario Awards of Excellence have been established to honor excellence in information technology within the Ontario Government, its agencies, boards and commissions, as well as the broader public sector.

Showcase Ontario appointed an expert selection panel comprising knowledgeable and objective Ontario leaders to review the applications against the selection criteria. The judging criteria included: measurable enhancement of quality and excellence in service for the benefit of Ontario’s citizens; cost and time savings and efficiency improvements; improved organizational effectiveness; and customer satisfaction.

Thanking Xanalys for their contribution to the case management system Project Director W. M. (Bill) Van Allen, A/D/Supt said: “The Showcase Ontario award was a long time in the making and would not have happened were it not also for your tireless efforts and those of your staff, in support of the Campbell Report Implementation Projects.”

Richard Mills, Product Manager for PowerCase said, “PowerCase represents the very best of what technology can offer the investigation management team to produce consistently positive outcomes – the day of happenstance investigation should be over.”

Background for Award
After a series of murders committed by Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka the Bernardo Investigation Review undertaken by the Honourable Mr. Justice Archie Campbell emphasised the need for a major case management system to facilitate police investigation of such cases. The Major Case Management Committee was mandated to define and develop a detailed plan for the implementation of a case management system and to determine the functional requirements of enabling technology including software application. The contract to deliver such a system was awarded to Xanalys.
